The Sunflower Foundation is an all-volunteer organisation and our volunteers are the heart that pump our lifeblood.
Prof. Shirley Randall AO
World renowned for her work with women in Rwanda after the genocide, Professor Shirley Randell AO has had a fascinating and eminent career as an educator and expert in public sector and institutional reform in developing countries across the globe. Dr Randell was recognised in the 2012 Inaugural Australian 100 Women of Influence Awards – global category, and 100 World of Difference Awardees – community category for 2013 by The International Alliance of Women. She is an Officer of the Order of Australia and Distinguished Alumni of the Universities of Canberra and New England, Armidale, Australia.
One of Dr Randell’s major strengths is Education: she recently completed an assignment as the Preservice Education Specialist with the Teaching Quality Improvement Project for the Ministry of Education in Bangladesh.
She is committed to universal education, continuing to mentor and empower women and has been active in Rotary International, Zonta International, Virginia Gildersleeve International Foundation, indigo foundation and Graduate Women International (GWI) and their worldwide initiatives.
Dr. Kim Power
Co-founder & President
Kim Power and her husband, Paul, co-founded the Sunflower Foundation (Australia) Inc. in 2008 in honour of her mother Patricia Monaghan in 2008. Prior to that, she was a psychologist and theologian specialising in religion, culture, gender and sexuality and recent several academic awards. She was a Senior Fulbright Scholar-in Residence in 1997, and on her return to Australia, co-founded the Golding Centre for the Study of Women’s History, Theology and Spirituality at Australian Catholic University. Kim's most recent book was, Reinterpreting the Eucharist: Explorations in Feminist Theology and Ethics (co-edited with Anne Elvey, Carole Hogan, and Claire Renkin. Now retired, she devotes her time to the Sunflower Foundation and delighting in her family, reading, TV, movies, theatre, her cat and her balcony garden. And did she say reading?
Dr. Paul Power
Co-founder & Committee Member
Paul is a former organisational psychologist and management consultant, whose expertise runs the gamut from educational performance to leadership formation. In 2005 he was the recipient of the prestigious Elton Mayo Award for his contribution to the practice of organisational psychology in Australia. He has published two books, a number of journal articles and has presented numerous conference papers. With Professor John Holland of Johns Hopkins University he developed “My Vocational Situation”, an effective vocational assessment tool.
From 1995 to 2008 he was a Director with Hay Group, where he led the leadership and talent practice in Australia and New Zealand. He led the design and delivery team for the ground-breaking national leadership development program for principals from government, catholic and independent schools, which is conducted in collaboration with the University of Melbourne on behalf of Teaching Australia. Now semi-retired, he is the administrative genius behind The Sunflower Foundation and he relaxes with books, theatre and movies, puzzles, TV and the Community Choir. His publications include Coaching School Leaders to be Different; Wisdom in Education; The Five Essentials of Leadership; and 52 Ways to Boost Your Emotional Intelligence.
Gillian joined us three years ago from Canada via London, where she worked in strategy, program development and management at one of the UK’s leading universities. Gillian’s focus is on developing and driving the Foundation’s strategy and business plan as chair of the Strategic Planning Sub-Committee and a member of the In-Country Grants Committee. Gillian's current role is as a dedicated yoga teacher.
Valetta is an accounting professional with over 7 years experience in not-for-profit organisations. Her skills and expertise include grants and project accouting, payroll, budgeting and forecasting and financial reporting.
Valetta has a strong interest in working with organisation with missions that nurture and cultivate environment, girl-child education, disability support and mental health.
Gulam is a result oriented Finance Professional who has about 30 years of broad experience in senior financial positions mainly in review, analysis and management reporting in particular the area of statutory and compliance reporting for large organisations in Australia and the United Kingdom. He was a past Fellow Member of prominent accounting bodies in australia and the United Kingdom. Gulam has the motivation, experience, skills and maturity to provide quality financial services to the Foundation.
Phyllis is an experienced Executive Assistant with a background in human resource practice and currently works in the non-for-profit sector. She previously worked in the Higher Education sector with provided an understanding of student academic processes and procedures, finance and human resources. Phyllis received a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources Management from Swinburne.
Vari grew up in Scotland, spent 4 years working in London at events such a London 2012 abs Glasgow 2014, and moved to Australia in 2017 via a 3 week trip around India where she was shocked and humbled by the lack of education and opportunities for young women. She read about Sunflower Foundation when she arrived in Melbourne, and thought she would put her skills from a career in the Events industry to good use. Vari is currently Venue Manager at Clifton's Melbourne
Edina has a background in Engineering and Business Management from RMIT University, Melbourne. She is currently working towards her Masters in Project Management whilst working for the Australian Federal Government. She aims to support the Foundations fundraising events and increase awareness of the positive work and outcomes achieved by each committee member.
Edina loves spending time with family and friends, playing sports and music.
Sue is an experienced Program Manager with extensive experience implementing global, enterprise wide, operational/IT projects with significant integration and 'end user' change management aspects. She has broad project management capabilities, including leading multicultural virtual teams containing 3rd party vendors and off shore business teams; project governance; change management; delivery management; business engagement; planning and strategy.
Tejas has experience across a broad swathe of marketing and communication, both here and in India.
Hareesh is currently studying law at Monash University. The Sunflower Foundation enables him to contribute to the struggle for economic development and legal equality in the third world. His work at the Foundation involves corporate partnerships.
Tara is a NetSuite Implementation consultant specialised in the non-for-profit organisations and helps them to improve the business processes and achieve ultimate efficiency, reduced costs, and better asset management. She gained her master of Business IT at RMIT University and ha a strong experience background in analysing and designing business systems for industries. Her passion is to help people to have equal opportunities to enjoy their lives.
Gerard first joined the Sunflower FOundation as an intern 2 years ago from the Australian Catholic University (ACU). After receiving his Bachelor degree, he began his career with ANZ as a personal banker specialising in retention. Gerard is now working with Aferpay. In May 2018 , he returned to the Foundation as a volunteer. He is committed to the Doundation success and is an integral member of the Foundation's marketing team.
Bego has been a stalwart on our marketing team, building our integral account and designing marketing materials.
Coline has join us as an intern to fulfil the requirement of an overseas practicum for her degree from Sciences Po Toulouse.
